At Dancekool, we believe dance is about more than movement — it’s about community, culture, and shared experiences. Over the years, we’ve hosted and collaborated on a wide range of dance battles, performances, and showcases for both kids and adults, from large public events in iconic city spaces to intimate studio showcases for our students. Below is a snapshot of some of the events that reflect our love for dance, creativity, and bringing people together.
Beat Breakdown @ Darling Harbour
Beat Breakdown is a free, public dance event that brings the energy of street dance to the heart of the city. Featuring dance battles across styles such as hip hop, breaking, waacking, locking and more, the event combines competition, live performances, and interactive workshops that invite audiences to join in. In collaboration with Darling Harbour, battle winners receive dining vouchers and IMAX tickets, while international guest judges like Yoonji and Beasty join respected local dancers to celebrate the culture. Beyond dance, Beat Breakdown also showcases local talent like African drumming, First Nations Acknowledgment of Country performances, and live music, creating a vibrant, inclusive experience for all.
Lunar New Year Dance Performance @ Market City
Our Lunar New Year performance is a high-energy dance showcase celebrating culture through movement. This 12-minute performance featured locking, hip hop, waacking, and breaking, set to classic Chinese songs from the 1990s and 2000s. Blending modern street dance with traditional elements such as fans, ribbons, and Chinese umbrellas, the showcase was a joyful tribute to heritage, community, and the festive spirit of Lunar New Year.
Waacktournament @ The Soda Factory & The Abercrombie
Waacktournament is Dancekool’s annual waacking battle event, designed to celebrate individuality, musicality, and expression. While waacking sits at its core, the event also features open-style battle categories so dancers from all styles can participate. Each year, we introduce fresh formats and ideas — including the 2025 “Represent Your Own Culture” showcase, where dancers paid tribute to their cultural roots through solo or duo performances. The event also welcomed international guest Prince Wizzard as a battle judge and workshop facilitator, making Waacktournament a highlight for dancers and audiences alike.
Dancekool WIP Kids Battle @ Dancekool
The Dancekool WIP Kids Battle is an open-style battle created especially for dancers under 18, offering a supportive and exciting space for young dancers to gain battle experience. Alongside the competition, we invited Australian breaking Olympian J-Attack to run a dedicated kids’ breaking workshop. The event focuses on confidence, creativity, and fun, while encouraging young dancers to challenge themselves and learn from one another.
Mid-Year & End-of-Year Student Showcases @ Dancekool
Our Mid-Year and End-of-Year Student Showcases are a celebration of growth, dedication, and community. Held for both kids and adults, these showcases give students the opportunity to perform for their peers, share what they’ve learned, and collaborate with classmates to create meaningful dance pieces. More than a performance, these showcases are a chance for our students to connect, reflect, and celebrate their journey together.
